Deborah Butterworth, Mediator & Trainer
Deborah is an Accredited Civil and Commercial Mediator and was recently called to the Bar. She is effective at setting the direction, focus and priorities of a dispute and is able to bring parties quickly together towards resolution. Deborah uses a collaborative style engaging parties to work together to successfully challenge preconceptions and break down barriers. Openness and transparency are encouraged with emphasis on preserving relationships and trust. Deborah believes that mediation works best when the parties work hard to find common ground rather than sit back and wait for the other side to give ground. She has had a broad experience in conflict resolution in the voluntary sector in health and education. She was a Chair of Governors for 9 years and held the confidence of the governing body during challenging and changing circumstances. A confident mediator Deborah knows how to loosen the knots that tie problems together. She embodies the calm, engaging empathy needed to draw issues out and has the gravitas to make parties work for resolution.
As a trainer, Deborah has written and presented training programmes for national education organisations and local groups. She can communicate vision and ethos with authority and brings groups along with her. She focuses on ensuring that basic understanding is in place and that participants’ confidence is raised by having the assurance that they have the skills they need.
