Why Train as a Mediator
Mediation is growing at an incredible pace worldwide. It’s practicality, effective outcomes and overall benefits are increasingly being embraced in every sector of society. Since 2007 all county courts in the UK have been operating a Small Claims Mediation Scheme and deal with an average of 10,000 cases yearly, which helps the courts to dispose of cases expeditiously.
In 2011 the UK government also introduced a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) in family cases that required parties to obtain information about mediation before an application is made in court. In addition, the European Union has taken an active role in promoting mediation by issuing a Mediation Directive, which came into force in 2011 – to mention a few.
Mediation is a strong tool for promoting wider access to justice and businesses/individuals are better off as it translates to significant savings and effective management of disputes. It is therefore expected that with its continuous global growth, mediation will soon become fully embedded within our judicial and dispute resolution systems and qualified mediators will certainly be in greater demand. Training as a mediator can also provide supplementary income or a complete change of career.
