Separation, Divorce & Children
Family mediation can help separating or divorcing couples workout practical and durable solutions to all the issues associated with a divorce or separation. It can help make workable arrangements for the children, family home, family business, joint bank accounts, other finances and assets. London ADR recognises that going through a divorce or separation can be both emotionally and physically stressful and seeking a resolution in court through the adversarial system doesn’t make it any better, particularly where young children are involved.
Our vastly experienced and highly skilled family mediators can help facilitate the right environment where divorcing or separating couples can feel relaxed and embark on a collaborative problem solving process to produce sensible and mutually beneficial solutions, even in the most complex cases.
In April 2011, the UK government changed the rules, with limited exceptions, regarding applications made to the family courts in relation to the children and disputes over finances and assets. It is now a requirement for divorcing or separating couples to consider Mediation by attending a MIAM, before proceeding with court action.
Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM)
This is where a mediator such as London ADR’s experienced family mediators, will meet with you and provide detailed information regarding the mediation process and its advantages to your particular case. We will provide all the information you need to help you make an informed choice whether or not you want to proceed with mediation. However, the most important advantage of mediation is that the parties are usually in the best position to decide what arrangements are to be made concerning their own children or assets rather than a judge.
